As someone who thinks differently to many others, and has some long-term mental and physical health issues, I've been thinking for a while about how to set boundaries with work colleagues. To that end, I wrote a quick note, which is linked to from my email footer.

I was quite nervous sending it, but 2025 has been an incredibly tough year, and I know from advising others that setting some boundaries around how I work will help make 2026 a little less stressful.

The way it's been received has been genuinely lovely. UKRI can actually be a brilliant place to work because (mostly) the people are wonderful. This has been another reminder of that.

Mental note to myself: revisit this next year and decide whether it has helped.
